The A+ for Energy program was developed by BP to recognize teachers for innovation and excellence in teaching energy and/or energy conservation.
In 2009, BP Canada awarded Alberta K-12 teachers/schools an additional $500,000 in grants and classroom materials. Included in this are scholarships for grant recipients to attend a three-day energy training conference facilitated in partnership with Inside Education.
Since 2007, BP Canada has provided $1.5 million to support 125 winning energy projects across Alberta, benefiting nearly 30,000 students.

Energy educator training conference & celebration gala
In addition to the grant award, BP will provide winning teachers with a scholarship to attend a three-day energy training conference, at the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis, presented in partnership with Inside Education. This all-inclusive scholarship will cover the cost of travel, meals, lodging expenses and a kit of instructional materials valued at $500. The conference concludes with a Celebration Gala honouring grant recipients. Participation in this training conference is a requirement for receiving the grant.

ENERGY IS EVERYWHERE AND WE DEPEND ON IT
At BP our goal is to encourage energy education in Alberta classrooms. E nergy creates the freedom to move, be warm or cool, and to enjoy a high quality of life. Teaching about energy and how it affects the world is a valuable tool for establishing a solid understanding of science and the environment.
Energy can be a thematic unit for a classroom with students learning how to observe the world around them; a topic for a classroom learning about electricity and magnetism; or hands-on activities for classrooms learning about different forms of energy. Energy education is an opportunity for technology students to plan more efficient school buildings, enables mathematics students to explore data trends, or social studies students to examine the relationship between the development of our nation and uses of energy. It can offer fine and performing arts classrooms a context for energy themes in drama, dance and visual arts.
Understanding the role of energy and its relationship to air quality, climate change, land and water management, biodiversity, waste, and renewable energy use is essential for understanding how best to preserve the environment while maintaining our quality of life.
